Boston had a lot of trouble desegregating schools
Boston schools districts attendance dropped from 60,000 to 40,000 55 schools in massachusetts were racially imbalanced while 44 of them were in boston

White students had many attacks on african americans for example Attorney Theodore Landsmark pictured below

A white teenager was stabbed to death by a group of black students
Black students threw rocks at auto mechanic richard poleet causing him to crash almost killing him
Martin luther king jr.'s assasination
At the time the youngest person to win a nobel peace prize during his 13 years of leadership african americans made more progress than the previous 350 years

MLK led a coalition of civil rights group in a nonviolent campaign against birmingham alabama one of the most segregated cities in america
He was assassinated by James Earl Ray on april 4th 1968

JFK appointed RFK attorney general were he continued to serve months after his brothers death
RFK announces his candidacy for president on march 16th 1968 and On june 4th he won the california presidential primary
He was assassinated by bishara sirhan a palastinian immigrant shot on june 5th
Five others were also shot

Massive resistance was a group of laws adopted in 1956 to block desegregation in public schools

Most laws to implement massive resistance were overturned by state and federal courts within a year
On june 26th 1954 byrd announces that he will use all legal means to continue segregate schools in virginia

Civil rights act of 1964
JFK first announced the civil rights act on june 11th 1963 LBJ addresses congress after JFKs death “no memorial oration or eulogy could more eloquently honor president Kennedy's memory than the earliest possible passage of the civil rights bill for which he fought so long” the bill met heavy opposition from the senate.
